Sound Motion™ is the engineering idea at the centre of Arc Ultra. Its compact woofer architecture produces powerful low-frequency movement while using less internal space than a conventional large woofer.

That leaves more of the enclosure available for the drivers that create width, height and dialogue clarity — helping Arc Ultra stay visually restrained while sounding much larger than it looks.

Flexible surrounds

Your rear speakers do not always have to stay rear speakers.

With current Sonos software, a pair of Move 2 speakers or a pair of Sonos Play speakers can serve as rear surrounds for Arc Ultra. Move them away from the cinema position and they can return to portable listening around the home.

Two different ideas: choose Era 300 for a dedicated premium cinema; choose compatible portable surrounds when flexibility matters as much as a permanent rear-speaker installation.

  • Standard HDMI ARC can carry Dolby Atmos when delivered through Dolby Digital Plus.
  • HDMI eARC is required for lossless Dolby TrueHD Atmos and Multichannel PCM.
  • For the broadest format compatibility, use eARC where your television provides it.

On furniture

  • Leave approximately 10 cm between Arc Ultra and the television.
  • Keep the front edge of the soundbar close to the front edge of the furniture to reduce unwanted reflections.
  • Keep the top and side acoustic areas unobstructed.

Wall mounted

  • Leave approximately 10 cm between the television and Arc Ultra.
  • Allow roughly 30 cm of clearance at each end from nearby walls or obstructions where practical.
  • Use the correct Arc Ultra wall-mounting hardware and verify wall construction before installation.

Do I need HDMI eARC for Dolby Atmos?
Not always. Standard HDMI ARC can carry Dolby Atmos when the television outputs it through Dolby Digital Plus. HDMI eARC is required for lossless Dolby TrueHD Atmos and Multichannel PCM. If your television has eARC, use it for the widest format support.
Can Arc Ultra connect to a television with optical audio?
Yes, with the separately sold Sonos Optical Audio Adapter. HDMI ARC or eARC is the preferred connection because it provides the fullest television-control and audio-format experience.
Does Trueplay work on Android?
Yes for Quick Tuning, which uses Arc Ultra's microphones and is available on both iOS and Android. Advanced Tuning uses the microphone and movement of a compatible iOS device and remains iOS-only.
Can I add a Sub and rear surrounds later?
Yes. Arc Ultra can begin as a single-soundbar system and expand later. A common premium fixed-cinema route is Arc Ultra with Sub 4 and a pair of Era 300 speakers. Other compatible Sub and surround combinations are also possible depending on the room, product generation and current Sonos software.
Can Bluetooth audio received by Arc Ultra play in other Sonos rooms?
Yes. Once Arc Ultra is receiving a compatible Bluetooth source, that audio can be shared with other grouped Sonos rooms, giving you a direct way to bring Bluetooth listening into a wider Sonos system.
Can two people listen privately with Sonos headphones?
Yes. Arc Ultra supports TV Audio Swap to up to two compatible Sonos headphones at the same time. Spatial Audio remains available; Dynamic Head Tracking is not available while two headphones are connected simultaneously.
How far should Arc Ultra sit below the television?
Plan for approximately 10 cm between Arc Ultra and the television, whether it sits on furniture or is wall mounted. For wall installations, also allow useful clearance at each end so the side-firing acoustic elements are not crowded by nearby walls or obstructions.
Should I buy Arc Ultra alone or design the whole cinema first?
Arc Ultra works very well on its own. If the room is large, the television position is unusual, or you are considering Sub, surrounds, concealed wiring or whole-home Sonos, planning the system first usually produces a cleaner result and avoids unnecessary hardware.
