Take the Sonos zone outside.

Outdoor audio has to solve two problems at once: survive the environment and cover an open space without becoming visually dominant. These speakers are designed for permanent exterior installation and pair naturally with Sonos Amp for streaming, grouping and outdoor-zone control.

Permanent outdoor audio

Sound that belongs outside.

A terrace, pool deck or garden needs more than a portable speaker. Outdoor Speakers are designed to live in the architecture: mounted securely, wired permanently and positioned to cover the places where people actually sit, dine and entertain.

Sonos Outdoor Speaker

Design for the outdoor zone, not just the speaker.

Exterior spaces lose the room boundaries that help indoor speakers. Coverage, mounting height, listening areas and neighbour-facing direction matter more outdoors, so placement should follow how the space is actually used.

Terraces + patiosMount close to the seating and dining area so sound can stay full without excessive volume.
PoolsideCover the social area rather than simply pointing speakers across the entire plot.
GardensUse multiple planned points when one pair would need to play too loudly to reach the whole space.
Outdoor entertainingCreate an exterior Sonos zone that can play independently or group with indoor rooms during events.

Built for weather. Still plan the installation.

IP66 protection means the enclosure is designed for permanent exterior use, including dust and weather exposure. That does not remove the need for sensible mounting, protected cable termination and drainage-aware placement.

IP66Dustproof and weatherproof enclosure.
−25°C to 65°CSpecified operating temperature range.
Humidity + salt sprayDesigned for demanding exterior environments.
UV + temperature exposureSpecified to withstand long-term outdoor conditions.
Sonos Amp

Give the outdoor space its own Sonos zone.

Pair the speakers with Sonos Amp for amplification, streaming and whole-home grouping. The outdoor area can play independently during everyday use or join the indoor system when entertaining.

One Amp = one zoneThe connected outdoor pair behaves as one Sonos room.
Optimise Sonos SpeakersAmp recognises supported Sonos Architectural speakers and applies dedicated DSP.
Whole-home groupingGroup the exterior zone with living, kitchen or entertainment spaces when needed.
Explore Sonos Amp

Everything needed to plan the outdoor pair.

Confirm mounting surfaces, cable routes, coverage direction, Amp location and weather exposure before installation. Exterior speaker placement is a system-design decision, not just a mounting decision.

Outdoor, clarified.

The questions that determine whether one pair is enough, where it should go and how the outdoor zone should be powered.

Can these speakers stay outside permanently?
Yes. They are IP66 rated and designed for permanent exterior use, including exposure to humidity, water, salt spray, heat, UV and freezing temperatures.
Do they need Sonos Amp?
They are passive and require amplification. Sonos Amp is the intended pairing when you want Sonos streaming, whole-home grouping and Sonos Architectural optimisation.
Is one pair enough for a large garden?
Not necessarily. Outdoors there are no room boundaries to reinforce sound. For large plots, it is often better to distribute more speakers closer to the listening areas than force one pair to play at excessive volume.
Where should they be mounted?
Mount them where they can cover the occupied area directly without firing unnecessarily toward neighbours or across unused parts of the property. Height, angle and distance from listeners all affect the result.
Can I use them around a pool?
They are designed for outdoor weather exposure, but electrical and cable installation near water must follow the applicable local safety requirements. The amplifier itself should remain in a protected indoor or suitable equipment location.
Black or White?
Choose the finish that disappears best against the mounting surface. White usually integrates more quietly with light soffits and façades; Black often suits darker structures and shaded exterior architecture.
Can the outdoor zone play with indoor Sonos rooms?
Yes. When powered by Sonos Amp, the outdoor zone can play independently or group with other Sonos rooms across the home.
When should Soundhous design the outdoor system?
Use design support for large gardens, multiple listening areas, new construction, pool zones, concealed cable routes, several outdoor pairs or any project where coverage and neighbour-facing direction need to be coordinated.

Design the outdoor zone before the cables disappear.

If the pair location, cable route and Amp position are already defined, add the speakers directly. For larger terraces, gardens, pool areas or multi-zone outdoor projects, plan the coverage before installation begins.
