Sonos Architectural

Sound in the room. Speakers out of sight.

Designed and tuned in collaboration with Sonance, the 8 Inch pair adds deeper bass, broader coverage and greater output for larger rooms. Pair with Sonos Amp for optimised DSP, Trueplay tuning and whole-home Sonos control.

Designed into the room

Hear the room. Not the speakers.

The 8 Inch In-Ceiling pair is made for homes where audio should feel present without becoming a visual feature. Once installed, the low-profile grille sits quietly in the ceiling while the room fills with sound.

Everyday architectural audio

Made for the rooms you use every day.

The 8 Inch format is the higher-output choice for larger rooms where deeper bass and broader coverage matter while the installation remains discreet.

Balanced room coverageIdeal for distributed everyday listening

Where it fits best

One speaker format. Multiple rooms.

Use the 6" pair where you want high-quality architectural audio without making the loudspeaker a visible design element.

KitchensClean overhead sound for music, radio and everyday listening.
BedroomsDiscreet audio without taking up furniture or wall space.
Dining roomsEvenly distributed music that stays visually quiet.
Secondary living spacesWhole-room sound matched to the scale and output needs of the space.

Architectural discretion

Designed to disappear into the ceiling.

The low-profile grille keeps the finished installation visually restrained, so the sound belongs to the room rather than the hardware. That makes the 6" pair especially useful where interior design takes priority.

Built around Sonos Amp

Power the speakers. Unlock the Sonos experience.

The 8 Inch In-Ceiling pair is passive, so it needs amplification. Pairing it with Sonos Amp brings streaming, multi-room grouping, architectural-speaker optimisation and Trueplay tuning into one system.

Tuning + integration

Built into the ceiling. Tuned to the room.

Architectural audio should not stop at installation. With Sonos Amp and a supported iOS device, Trueplay measures the room and adjusts playback so the finished system is tuned for the space where it actually lives.

01 · Optimise

Tell Amp which Sonos Architectural speakers are connected.

Use the Sonos app's speaker optimisation for supported Sonos Architectural models so Amp can apply product-specific DSP.

02 · Tune

Measure the actual room with Trueplay.

Trueplay listens to how sound behaves in the room and fine-tunes playback around the installed environment.

03 · Group

Make the room part of the wider Sonos home.

Once powered by Amp, the architectural zone can group with compatible Sonos rooms for synchronised whole-home listening.

Choose the right size

6" or 8"? Start with the room.

Both models share the same discreet architectural approach. The practical difference is scale: the 6" is the more discreet everyday choice, while the 8" adds deeper bass, wider coverage and more output for larger spaces.

Room planning

Speaker count starts with room size, layout and listening level.

The examples here are orientation only. Final quantity and placement should be confirmed against ceiling geometry, furniture, room use and the desired listening level.

Plan my system
Small roomOne pair is often sufficient for balanced everyday listening.
Medium / larger roomTwo pairs may provide better coverage where the room shape or listening area is wider.
Open-plan / multi-roomUse a designed layout so speaker spacing, Amp loading and zone boundaries are intentional.

Frequently asked

In-Ceiling, clarified.

The questions that usually determine whether this is the right architectural speaker for the room and how the system should be planned.

Do these speakers need Sonos Amp?
They are passive speakers, so they need an external amplifier. Sonos Amp is recommended because it adds Sonos streaming, architectural-speaker optimisation and Trueplay support. Another suitable amplifier can power the speakers, but those Sonos-specific optimisation features will not apply.
How many 6" In-Ceiling speakers can one Sonos Amp power?
A Sonos Amp can power up to three supported Sonos Architectural pairs — six speakers total when they are wired appropriately. All speakers on that Amp operate together as one Sonos zone.
Does Trueplay work with these speakers?
Yes, when they are connected to a supported Sonos Amp configuration. Trueplay tuning for Sonos Architectural speakers requires a supported iOS device and measures how the installed speakers interact with the room.
Can the grille be painted?
Yes. The low-profile magnetic grille can be painted to blend with the ceiling finish. Painting should be done carefully so the perforations remain open and acoustic performance is not obstructed.
Should I choose the 6" or 8" model?
Choose the 6" when visual discretion and balanced everyday listening are the priorities. Choose the 8" when a larger room needs more bass extension, greater output or wider coverage. The correct choice should follow the room rather than simply the larger specification.
Can these be used for TV audio?
Yes, as part of an appropriately designed Sonos Amp system. The exact layout depends on whether the room needs front-channel TV audio, surround duties or general distributed audio, so placement should be planned around the television and seating position.
Can I install them myself?
The speakers are designed for architectural installation, which means the ceiling opening, cable route, depth, structure and final placement all matter. A straightforward retrofit can be handled by a competent installer; new-build and multi-room systems should be planned before ceilings are closed.
What cable should I use?
Use appropriately rated speaker cable sized for the run length and installation environment. For professionally installed systems, Soundhous will specify cable gauge and routing as part of the system design.
